At Propak Architectural Glazing, we are proud to announce our involvement in the restoration of a hidden gem steeped in history. For over 150 years, a row of Victorian railway arches has lain concealed, waiting for their moment to shine. Now, as part of Native Land’s visionary £2.5 billion development on London’s South Bank, these arches will reclaim their place as the heart of a bustling hub.
Comprising 14 majestic brick viaduct arches dating back to 1864, our latest project at Bankside Yards promises to redefine urban living. These arches will house a vibrant mix of shops, restaurants, and performance spaces, breathing life into what will become a ‘new village high street’.
Our team at Propak Architectural Glazing was entrusted by Multiplex to bring this vision to life. Through meticulous craftsmanship, across this project we have, designed, manufactured, and installed:
- 12 Arched Viss Fixed glazing units
- 2 large spanning arched curtain wall screens with door insets
- 4 arched head VISS curtain walling with dual action anti finger trap double doors
- 3 full circle windows using Janisol
- 10 curtain wall screens with dual action anti finger trap double doors for pedestrian arcades
- 2 full metal clad riser doors, including cladding PPC wall panelling
- 4 bespoke curved glass display cabinets
- 50m of bespoke gutter fascia cladding panels and associated bracketry to support gutters
Jansen Schuco systems were selected for this project due to their thermally broken properties and design appeal. Across the curtain walling sections, Jansen VISS was used due to its highly customisable properties, allowing architects and designers to create unique facades tailored to specific project requirements. It offers flexibility in terms of glass types, colours, finishes, and configurations, enabling creative design possibilities.
This redevelopment is not just about revitalising bricks and mortar; it is about honouring Southwark’s rich industrial heritage and fostering a sense of community. We are thrilled to have played a part in this transformative project, and we look forward to seeing the Bankside Yards flourish as a testament to London’s spirit and innovation.
